FAQ

How much does it cost?
kitchi is free. There is an optional upgrade available for $23 which will let you run it in the background regardless of whether or not someone is logged in to the PC or
server.  Running it as a service is recommended if you are using a Betabrite or Alpha LED sign.

What does it do?
kitchi can be used to download news headlines from popular internet news websites and show those headlines on the objects below:

Hardware LED Signs

Alpha

Betabrite Classic

Betabrite Prism

Prolite

Software LED Signs

Java LED (recommended for intranet use only)

Marquee Webobject

This is an example of the MS Marquee -- kitchi may be used to send RSS data to an MS Marquee webobject -- kitchi outputs a plain html file that may be #included within your PHP or ASP(x) code

Cell Phone

Upload the headlines to your website
for viewing on your cellphone. (various styles of WAP output)

HTML
Blackberry / Webobject /
Email /

Write out a plain HTML file that
includes the headlines for inclusion to
your website. (html output)

RSS

Use this to clean RSS for use in your web portal.

Email

Email the news, including links to the
full stories, to yourself. (smtp output)

Pager

Email plain text to your pager.

Why was it made?
I bought an LED sign and it was fun typing in things to the sign using the remote-control -- for awhile -- I now prefer the sign to tell me what’s going on in the world as it now does by periodically downloading the news.

What is the available upgrade good for?
The available upgrade allows you to set up kitchi and then forget about it -- it will automatically run your news feeds to your LED signs whenever your computer is turned on. See
Usage Notes for more information about setting up a service.

How do I purchase the upgrade?
You may purchase the upgrade within kitchi by clicking on the “Secure Purchase” button within the program.  The program will be automatically upgraded upon a successful purchase. You may also purchase one or more licenses from the
Kagi website.  Thanks
